The Artist

PA is Arnaud Picaud, artist, family member at La Chocolaterie, and a contemporary voice in observational figurative drawing. He was drawn to drawing people not from psychology or portraiture, but from a specific visual challenge: how do you capture presence without narrative, gesture without statement?

People resist fixed representation. Each person is particular, unrepeatable, encountered in the moment. PA's response is to observe directly, in real time, drawing from the streets and Métro of Paris. His Palette & Medium

PA works primarily in ink — often neutral inks or black — building value through line and layering. His early work was purely monochrome; his recent practice incorporates watercolor in muted, restrained tones. He rarely uses pure, bright color. The palette serves the form, not the reverse. When he applies color — soft greens, quiet blues, ochres — it is always in service of the figure, the gesture, the presence.
